PROJECT OVERVIEW
New power from existing infrastructure
The Allegheny 3 Hydroelectric Project will add 9.7 MW of new hydropower generation at the existing U.S. Army Corps of Engineers C.W. Bill Young Lock and Dam on the Allegheny River. By putting existing federal infrastructure to work, the project is expected to generate approximately 65,400 MWh of reliable, renewable electricity annually, enough to power approximately 6,200 homes, without constructing a new dam or reservoir. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will continue to operate the existing lock and dam.
The Pre-Application Document and Proposed Study Plan were filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in October 2024 under FERC Project No. 15262.
